13 COMPANIES HIRING TRANSCRIPTIONISTS WORLDWIDE

WORLDWIDE TRANSCRIPTION JOBS YOU CAN DO ONLINE

If you can't do the job online from any country in the world, you won't find it on my list!

What do they do?

A transcriptionist is someone who listens to voice recordings and converts them into written reports. The work can be very repetitive because you may find that you have to listen to the same recording several times in a row to make sure that you are tying what’s being said correctly. This can become even more of a challenge if the recording itself is of poor quality or it may be hard to understand what the person is saying because of an accent.

There are several types of transcriptionistsgeneral, medical, or legal transcriptionist. To become a general transcriptionist, no prior training is required, but you’ll need a good computer and reliable internet connection to get started. However, for the other two, some form of experience or prior training is needed. If you are just starting out in the field, it’s better to start as a general transcriptionist to get a sense of what is involved, and then if it’s something you like and want to do full-time, you could specialize through more training.

What is the rate of pay?

The amount you earn will depend on your level of experience and your area of specialty. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the average salary of a medical transcription as of May 2015 was $34,890 per year or $16.77 per hour and that of a legal transcriptionist was $49,500 per year or $23.80 per hour. If you’re starting out as a general transcriptionist, you can expect to make around $15.00 per hour. Something to keep in mind, though, is that a transcription or audio hour is different from a regular work hour. For example, if a job says $65 per audio hour, you’ll get paid that amount for every hour of audio recording you type but in reality, it could take you much longer to transcribe the recording if you’re inexperienced or the quality is poor.
